I’m finally sitting down to write a post-trip update.  My last update was the night before the last day of the retreat.  On that final day I ended up getting a solid half-day of work in and was well enough rested to give me energy for not only the mo...

Mission Trips

  • Brian – This week has been exhausting so far, a blur of plane rides, bus rides, check-in, rehearsals, worship and fellowship with the folks from World Harvest, and sporadic attempts at sleep.  So far what has struck me most is the gracious reception we’ve received from everyone.  After spending 3 years in the field since their last conference, the missionaries are excited to see each other and have also given us a warm welcome.  As I reflect on the fact that these wonderful people have dedicated their lives to the service of others, I’m excited to be able to turn the tables and serve them, ...

  • Ken-This has been an amazing week so far.  I have had a great time meeting these precious missionaries.  It is humbling and inspiring to meet these men and women (and many times their young children) who have sacrificed so much to further the Kingdom of God.  I have especially enjoyed meeting so many of these “third culture” children who in a sense have no national identity (US citizens who have been born and raised abroad).  One child of missionaries in Prague taught me how to say hello in the Czech language.  I can’t even imagine what it must be like to live by faith in such a way.

  • We are 2.5 days into the conference. Things have gone pretty smooth since we got here. We have had a great time leading worship and serving our 400 friends from WHM. I have been impacted by what an interesting life these folks lead. Living by faith is something I am learning from all of them. They raise support from people who believe in thier calling and them. Each month their family depends on the checks to keep coming in so that they can have what they need to keep doing the work that usually takes years to get going and sustain!!! A big thank you to everyone who supports missionaries! You...

  • 5:45 am EDT–Joal receives a call from the US Airways automated service stating that the 1:30pm flight from Nashville to Philadelphia for the 4 Nashville team members has been delayed over 1 hour.

6:30 am EDT–The emails come in a blaze stating constant adjustments of the time of the first flight (which could obviously affect the other flights to Portugal)

8 am EDT–A frenzied message is left on Joal’s phone from our Dallas based travel agent stating that ALL Nashville to Philly flights on US Airways have been cancelled for today AND tomorrow. The FAA and weather have rearranged flights and pl...

Distance will NOT stop a World Music Mission team from accomplishing the necessary preparation and rehearsal. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor….HOURS of driving from Nashville to Gainesville!! Ken Broadway, the Spain Team drummer, invited the team (as many as could attend) to come to Gainesville for both rehearsal and a chance to lead worship at his home church. There really is no substitute for time spent running through charts and harmonies together; there is a sense of purpose and….mission when we have our teams get face to face in a circl...
